BUCKLES

HARD BUCKLE

One way to fasten the kite to the line is to set a buckle.

The buckles that I'm using look like a paper clip. Made with stainless steel wires diameters 1.6 or 2 or 2.4mm. No one get warped. For example, the one Ø 2 mm has hold kite pulling forces up to 40 Kg, and I have tested it up to 100 Kg. I also use titanium wire.

It is common to have a swivel next to the buckle. Most of the time, they are useless, because they are badly turning freely. They stay still whilst the line is twisting easily.

Fabrication sequence:

LARK  KNOT

The other way to fasten the kite is to put a loop of bigger line and to fix the kite line on it using lark knot.

TO AVOID:

The wire fasteners of the fishing supplies have poor mechanical characteristics. They unfold easily when kites are pulling. The resistance values shown by the manufacturers are totally overestimated.
